How Many Photos Can You Post on LinkedIn?

By Sam Cassman · Last verified

How many photos can you post on LinkedIn? Up to 20 in a single multi-image post. That figure comes straight from LinkedIn's own help documentation, which also sets the file size, dimensions and aspect ratio each image has to meet. Read on for the full specs, the difference between a multi-image post and a PDF carousel, and what our data does and does not say about posting more.

You can add up to 20 photos to a single LinkedIn post. That is the whole answer, and it comes from LinkedIn's own help documentation rather than a guess. The rest of this page is the detail around it: the specs each photo has to meet, the thing you cannot do (a photo and a link together), and the common mix-up between a multi-image post and a carousel.

How many photos can you post on LinkedIn?

Up to 20, in what LinkedIn calls a multi-photo or multi-image post. LinkedIn's help page states it directly: "You can upload a maximum of 20 photos in a multi-photo post." The limit is the same across desktop, iOS and Android.

Readers swipe through the images in the feed, and the first one carries most of the weight, because it is what shows before anyone decides to swipe.

LinkedIn photo specs: size, dimensions and aspect ratio

The same LinkedIn help documentation sets the per-image requirements:

RequirementValue
Maximum photos per post20
Maximum file size5 MB per image
Minimum dimensions552 x 276 pixels
Recommended width1080 pixels
Aspect ratio range3:1 to 4:5 (width:height)

The 4:5 portrait end of that range (1080 x 1350) takes the most vertical space in the mobile feed, so it is the ratio to design to. The full reasoning, and the sizes for every other placement, is in the LinkedIn image size guide.

Can you edit or reorder photos after posting?

No. LinkedIn does not let you resize, edit or reorder the photos once the post is live. If the order is wrong or an image is cropped badly, the only fix is to delete the post and start again, which loses any engagement it had gathered. Check the order in the composer before you publish.

Can you post a photo and a link together?

No, and this one catches people out. LinkedIn lets you share either a URL link or an image in a post, but not both at the same time. Paste a link into a post that already has an image and the link preview will not attach. The usual workaround is to keep the image on the post and put the link in the first comment.

Is a multi-image post the same as a carousel?

No, and the two get confused constantly because LinkedIn uses "carousel" loosely for both.

  • A multi-image post is up to 20 separate photos you swipe through, the format this page is about.
  • A carousel is a single document (a PDF, PPTX or DOC) that LinkedIn renders as swipeable pages. It allows up to 300 pages and a 100 MB file, and it is a different upload button in the composer.

If you want the swipeable, slide-by-slide look most people mean by "carousel", you want the document version, not 20 photos. Our free carousel generator exports a LinkedIn-ready PDF at the right size, so it lands as a proper document carousel.

How many photos should you actually post?

Here honesty matters more than a confident number. Competitor pages will tell you the "sweet spot" is five to ten photos. We have no data that supports that, and neither, as far as we can tell, do they.

What our study of 130,000 posts does show is that attaching an image at all is the single most reliable lift on LinkedIn: images earned about 33% more reactions than the same creator's text-only posts, and that held for 70% of creators. You can read the method behind that in the LinkedIn algorithm study.

What it does not show is an optimal number of photos in a multi-image post. We tested slide count for document carousels, not for multi-image photo posts, so we will not pretend to a figure we did not measure. The safe reading: an image helps a lot, more than one is fine up to the limit of 20, and there is no evidence that hitting some specific count changes the outcome. Lead with your strongest image and stop when you run out of strong ones.

I'm Sam. I built Flypost after watching too many good businesses sit on years of material (blog posts, call transcripts, case studies, half-finished decks) and post almost none of it.

I write everything here myself. When I claim something works on LinkedIn, it's because I tested it first-hand or ran the numbers across our own data. Where I'm working from a small sample, I'll say so. I'd rather be useful than certain.
